Neighborhood: Logan Square

Vicky Medina, the chef-owner of Caliente, has opened a second outpost in Logan Square. Medina ditched the dark, loungy decor and added a new copper bar, and bright, perky hues. The backroom is dedicated to Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, with lots of her work as well as other Latin artists (the room also doubles as a space for private parties and cooking classes). The pan-Latin menu features favorites from the Lakeview location like seafood enchiladas, chicken in pumpkin seed mole sauce and braised pork and nopales (cactus paddles) in green chili sauce. This location also offers bocaditos (little bites) with fare from Cuba, Peru and Mexico. Selections include choices like camarones borrachos, jumbo grilled shrimp with tequila, a trio of empanadas, and almejas en chile de arbol , mussels in a spicy saffron sauce.
